A filter bag size chart is a starting point for identifying a replacement, not a universal interchangeability guarantee. Size numbers describe product families, while the actual bag length, diameter and sealing profile depend on the manufacturer and configuration. Use the housing drawing and finished-bag dimensions to approve fit.
Published Size 1 and Size 2 examples
These are examples from two manufacturers’ published product lines. Each row retains its source’s dimensions; the values are not interchangeable tolerances or specifications for our own products.
| Source and family | Size | Published diameter × length |
|---|---|---|
| Eaton SNAP-RING | 01 | 7 × 17 in; 180 × 430 mm |
| Eaton SNAP-RING | 02 | 7 × 32 in; 180 × 810 mm |
| Pentair industrial, housing 88-15 | 1 | 7.06 × 16.5 in; 179 × 419 mm |
| Pentair industrial, housing 88-30 | 2 | 7.06 × 32 in; 179 × 813 mm |

What do 7×16, 7×17 and 180×810 mean?
A 7×16 or 7×17 filter bag description normally needs an explicit unit and measurement definition before it becomes a purchase specification. Ask whether the length includes the collar, where the diameter is measured and whether the quoted value is nominal. Do not assume the two descriptions identify the same item.
Likewise, 180×810 needs units and dimensional orientation. Even if a metric description resembles a Size 2 listing, confirm the ring, usable length and basket match. Similar-looking dimensions do not establish compatibility.
Measure the interface before the used bag
A used bag can stretch, fold or become distorted. Identify the housing and basket first, then measure an unused reference bag or compare its manufacturer drawing. Measure the sealing ring separately from the fabric body. Take photographs of the seating area as well as the bag opening.
- Housing manufacturer, model and existing part number.
- Basket diameter, depth and condition.
- Ring outside and inside dimensions, cross-section and thickness.
- Bag body diameter and defined usable length.
- Collar, gasket or hold-down requirements.
- Required fit tolerance and the approved measurement method.
Confirm installation with a sample
With the housing safely isolated according to its manual, check that the candidate bag seats evenly, reaches the intended basket position and allows the retention mechanism to operate correctly. Do not force a misfitting ring into place or modify the support basket to accommodate an unapproved replacement.
After installation, the operating trial should check filtration quality as well as mechanical fit. A bag may fit physically yet have the wrong media or retention performance. Record the approved part number so future orders reproduce the same configuration.
Ordering custom sizes
Send a dimensioned sketch, unit system, housing information and sealing details when requesting custom liquid filter bag options. Use the ring and collar guide for interface checks and the selection checklist for process requirements.
Use the table with a drawing
A filter bag size chart helps identify a likely family, but approval needs the finished dimensions and ring profile. Retain units, measurement definitions and the housing reference.
Resolve nominal descriptions
When comparing a filter bag size chart with a quotation, ask how length and diameter are measured. Do not assume that a trade-size label resolves differences among manufacturers.
Frequently asked questions
Is every Size 1 filter bag 17 inches long?
No. Published product-line examples vary. Check the specified drawing and the housing requirements.
Can a longer bag improve filtration in the same housing?
Only if the housing, basket and approved configuration accommodate it. Extra fabric folded into a shorter basket is not an approved area upgrade.
